Oh my squash!

Oh my squash!  (MSW) - oh my gosh or oh my dog spelled backwards.

Oh my gosh is another Mormon Swearword.  Why not just say that?  Well, of course, there is a story behind these words.

Back in college at BYU (Breed Um' Young University), I was hanging out with friends who were mostly music majors.  There are a few things I can tell you about music majors.  First and foremost, they are incredibly obnoxious.  They have a very dry sense of humor.  And are very sarcastic. Pretty much all geeks.  Yep, my kind of group since I fit right in!  Yes, we definitely danced to the beat of our own drummer.

Our little group did everything together.  A couple of them even got married!  Someone decided one day that "oh my gosh" was too close to the phrase "oh my ____"  (dog spelled backwards).  So the phrase was changed to "oh my squash."  And it was one of those things that sticked.  We said it constantly.  "Oh my squash, what are you doing?!"  "Oh my squash, I can't believe you just did that."  And, as life goes on, we started saying the phrase outside of our little group.  Back at home in my apartment it became "oh my squash, who drank all of my milk?"  or "oh my squash, I need to do my laundry so bad!"  It drove my room mates crazy.  For months this went on and on.  Oh my squash!

About 2 or 3 months into this new phrase obsession, I was at home with my room mates.  We were watching TV together, avoiding homework.  I said something about the show that was "Oh my squash, I can't believe it!"  My room mate turned to me with the most serious look on her face.  With this look of seriousness and displeasure, she says "Big Bird, it really bothers me when you take the gourds name in vain."

Yep, I stopped saying it immediately.
